Choosing Optimism

03.08.2026

Over the years, I have realised that happiness is not the absence of suffering. It is the quiet decision to keep looking for the light, even when life feels dark. I believe optimism is not something we find. It is something we choose, one small step at a time.

Suffering is part of the human experience. At some point, we all encounter loss, disappointment, fear, or uncertainty.

I have often heard people say, "Life is hell."

Perhaps, at times, it can feel that way.

But I also believe that how we see life shapes how we experience it.

The more we learn to look at life with hope, gratitude, and even a little humour, the less power suffering has over us.

I believe we often create our own version of hell—not because difficult things happen, but because we allow darkness to become the only thing we can see.

Sometimes, all we need is to look for a small light.

If I cannot afford a bigger house, I can save more, find a second job, or decide that perhaps I don't really need a bigger house after all.

If I dislike my job and it makes me unhappy, I can search for a new one. Or perhaps I can stay a little longer, learn something valuable, and leave when the time is right.

If I feel lonely and have no close friends, I can join a club, learn a new skill, volunteer, or simply become the kind of person I would like to meet.

There is almost always another way of looking at the same situation.

If every day we can find just one positive thought to balance something that makes us sad or discouraged, we slowly begin to build a life with more joy, hope, and peace.

These ideas may sound simple in theory. Living them every day is something entirely different. I know, because I am still learning them myself.

Looking at My Own Life

I created this website because I wanted to share the lessons life has taught me.

Today, almost nobody reads it.

I have no large audience.

I am not famous.

And honestly, I don't want to be famous.

If even one person finds comfort, hope, or a different perspective through these words, then this project has already been worthwhile.

I don't have the money to invest in expensive marketing campaigns.

But I believe that if these stories are meant to reach someone, they will find their way.

And if they don't...

That is okay too.

I accept both possibilities.

I don't see this as wasted time.

To me, this website is a mission.

Perhaps it will help someone tomorrow.

Perhaps in ten years.

Perhaps after I am gone.

Maybe someone from the next generation will come across these stories and discover something that helps them carry their own struggles a little more lightly.

That thought alone is enough to keep me writing.

"Optimism is not believing that life will always be kind. It is believing that even the darkest road can lead us towards the light."
